Travel clinic at Lewis Grove Pharmacy in Lewisham, London
Are you thinking about travelling abroad for work or vacation? Have you checked if you had all the recommended vaccinations for your travel destination?
When you plan your holiday, make sure that your vaccinations are up-to-date well in advance. Travel vaccinations are also important for your travel insurance validity as most travel insurance providers expect you to have all the recommended vaccinations before your travel. Not having the recommended vaccinations might invalidate your travel insurance cover.
We at Lewis Grove Pharmacy in Lewisham provide a complete private travel vaccination clinic. Our pharmacists are fully trained in travel health. They will be able to advise you on the necessary vaccinations, antimalarial and other travel essentials for your travel.
What vaccination do I need for my travel?
If you are not sure as to what vaccination you might need to have before your travel to your holiday destination then there is help available. The NHS has set up a website specifically for travel health, including travel vaccinations, malaria risk and yellow fever risk based on different destinations. You can search for a destination and it provides you with information on which vaccinations are recommended, which vaccinations you might consider. The website is https://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/home
We offer a free travel health consultation during which one of our travel health pharmacists will go through the recommended vaccinations, malaria risk and yellow fever requirements for your travel destinations. They will also provide tailored travel health advice and recommend any travel essentials such as mosquito repellents, suncare and essential travel medicines.
When should I get my travel vaccination?
The key is to plan well in advance and as soon as you know your travel destination, contact our pharmacy to enquire which vaccination you need and what is the schedule for the vaccinations and any boosters. Some vaccination consists of a course of 2 or 3 injections, given over a period of time so you need to leave enough time to have the course of injections. Also, some vaccinations can take up to 8 weeks for them to provide maximum protection, therefore, it is important to arrange an appointment as soon as you can.
If you have to travel at short notice, you should still speak to one of our pharmacists to check which vaccinations you might be able to have as it is still better to get the vaccination than not getting vaccinated at all.
What to bring with me to my travel clinic appointment?
It is very important that you bring your previous vaccination history to the appointment. This could be in the form of a vaccination certificate or a list showing which vaccination you have been administered and when. Also, if you can bring a list of any medications that you are taking as this would help the pharmacist to establish which vaccinations you need and also the suitability of the vaccines.
